How clear aligners work
Aligners are a series of custom transparent trays that gradually move teeth into a planned position. Each tray is worn 1-2 weeks, 20-22 hours per day. Removed for eating, brushing, flossing.
The process
- Consultation. Reviews your goals and confirms candidacy.
- Digital scan. Intraoral scanner captures a 3D model — no goopy impressions.
- Treatment plan. A digital preview shows projected movement and final result before you commit.
- Aligner delivery. Trays arrive a few weeks later. Each set worn 1-2 weeks.
- Check-ins. Brief progress visits every 6-10 weeks.
How long it takes
Most adults complete treatment in 6-18 months. Mild cases as little as 4-6 months. After active treatment, retainers are worn nightly to maintain the result.
Cost
Typically $3,500-6,500 in California. Many PPO plans now include a partial orthodontic benefit. CareCredit financing is available across 12-24 months.
