How clear aligners work

Aligners are a series of custom transparent trays that gradually move teeth into a planned position. Each tray is worn 1-2 weeks, 20-22 hours per day. Removed for eating, brushing, flossing.

The process

Consultation. Reviews your goals and confirms candidacy.
Digital scan. Intraoral scanner captures a 3D model — no goopy impressions.
Treatment plan. A digital preview shows projected movement and final result before you commit.
Aligner delivery. Trays arrive a few weeks later. Each set worn 1-2 weeks.

How long it takes

Most adults complete treatment in 6-18 months. Mild cases as little as 4-6 months. After active treatment, retainers are worn nightly to maintain the result.

Cost

Typically $3,500-6,500 in California. Many PPO plans now include a partial orthodontic benefit. CareCredit financing is available across 12-24 months.

How long does treatment take?

Most adults complete in 6-18 months. Mild cases of crowding may take 4-6 months. Severe rotations or large movements take longer.

Are aligners as effective as braces?

Aligners can correct most common alignment issues. For severe bite issues, large vertical movements, or major skeletal corrections, traditional braces or surgical orthodontics may be required.

How often do I have to wear them?

20-22 hours per day to track properly. Removed only for eating, brushing, and flossing. Less than the recommended hours is the most common reason treatment takes longer than expected.

Will aligners affect my speech?

Most patients adjust within a few days. A slight lisp may be present at first as your tongue adjusts. Reading aloud for 15 minutes a few times helps speed up adjustment.
